Here’s the right way how to install the mods. I tried that way as you wrote it, but it didn’t work. So there you go:
Click on Finder, then at the top task bar select Go to bring down the drop-down menu. Then hold down the ‘ALT’ key. This will expand the drop down menu to expose more options in that list.
In the drop-down menu, select Library, then select Application Support, then select American Truck Simulator. The mod folder should certainly be there.
