Car Mode Progression Uses Reputation Instead of XP in ATS

Car Mode Progression Uses Reputation Instead of XP in ATS

Road Trip introduces a separate career path to American Truck Simulator, and SCS Software is not simply reusing the existing truck experience system for it. Car Mode progression is built around reputation instead of traditional XP, which gives the new mode its own pace and goals.

That choice reflects the different type of work players will do in Road Trip. Truck Mode remains focused on freight and business growth, while Car Mode puts more attention on exploration, customer jobs, and how well each delivery is completed. That stronger focus on simply travelling through the world also fits a broader interest in environmental detail across open-world games, whether players are watching roadside scenery in ATS or discussing things like GTA 6 Animals and how much life they may add to another large game world.

A separate career structure

A separate career structure

Progression in Car Mode is independent from the trucking career. Driving a car does not directly advance the same experience path used for truck jobs, and progress made with trucks does not automatically unlock better Road Trip opportunities.

Instead, Car Mode uses systems such as Courier Rating and customer reviews. The quality of completed jobs affects what becomes available next, so progression depends more on consistent performance than on simply collecting experience points over time.

What still carries over

Not everything is separated between the two careers. Money remains shared across the profile, which means income earned through Road Trip goes into the same balance already used for trucking.

Map exploration also carries between modes. Roads discovered while travelling by car stay marked as explored when the player later returns to a truck, while routes already uncovered through trucking remain available in Car Mode. This avoids making players repeat exploration just because they choose a different vehicle.

The result is a useful middle ground. Career progression stays separate where the gameplay differs, but the larger ATS profile still feels connected.

Reputation changes the jobs you receive

Reputation changes the jobs you receive

Road Trip jobs are judged through customer feedback, and the resulting Courier Rating affects future opportunities. A stronger rating can open longer routes, more difficult contracts, fragile or valuable cargo, and jobs with tighter delivery windows.

Higher ratings can also improve earnings. Players who repeatedly complete five-star deliveries can build a Perfect Delivery Streak, which adds another financial reward for reliable performance.

This gives each job more weight than a simple XP payout. A poor delivery can affect how the player progresses, while several strong results can gradually improve both the available work and potential income.

Different progression inside the same ATS profile

The split between XP and reputation suits the difference between the two careers. Truck Mode remains about freight hauling and building a transport business, while Car Mode is built around smaller jobs and direct customer feedback.

Shared money and map exploration keep those careers connected without making them identical. Road Trip therefore adds another progression path to American Truck Simulator rather than replacing the systems that existing truck players already use.
